I would like to explain how to use SD MIDI ][+ on BASIC.

SD MIDI ][+ card with a sound module, it would make a MIDI sound card for APPLE II.

But, unfortunately, APPLE II has limited Software to play MIDI sound.

SD MIDI ][+ users could play *.MID songs with MIDI Player.

And I believe that someday people would like to play MIDI card for better sound on APPLE II.

I will explain how to use SD MIDI ][+ card on BASIC in this column.

Users can use it in a straightforward way on BASIC.

Play Note and Stop the Note and with proper delay, It could be a MIDI song player.

Let's start to play BASIC for MIDI sound.

Try this code to make Sound.

*You need to key in all BASIC code, it would make you understand it.

** SD MIDI ][+ need to SLOT#2.

10 AC = 49320 ;Slot #2. MIDI control port

20 AD = 49321 ;Slot #2, MIDI Data port

Can you hear any sound?

If there is no sound, try to check if card SLOT #2 and Speaker are ON.

If you could hear sound.. it is the easiest way to use MIDI card on your APPLE II.

And Now, let's change the musical instrument to another.

Dear friends and customers,

I think, I really like music on the computer. Such as FM sound and MIDI sound are good for my APPLE II life and like to think about new/better sound cards for my APPLE II.
In fact, I'm not good at the piano... my son plays better... but, still dream of playing the piano with my own song...
But I just I have some talent for making hardware but not good for playing musical instruments...  ;(
If Someone makes a good melody it would be always welcome to the world and then could play the melody on my APPLE II.

The SD MIDI II+ card was discontinued for so long time and need to make another batch for my friends and customers.

In this version of the SD MIDI ][+ would be just a little revised.

Before, I considered it a lot but, I'm not sure if someone would like my idea or just let it be a new trial for fun so just revise the version.

I received the prototype PCB and tested it. works as I expected.

Now, I'm thinking about which color would be good for this card...

Anyway, Please wait 2 more weeks then I could start to make the commercial cards.

Dear Friends and customers,

SD MIDI][+ Player using three timers of SD MIDI ][+ card.

And I had a report from a user who having some tempo issue.

Please patch your SD MIDI ][+ card as the photo.

It required 3 resistors (4.7K - 10K  is good enough).

And solder the resistors as the below.

This Location pins are not used but, it receipt some noise.

And the Resistors will pull down the pins and set it stable.

Works and tested on APPLE ][+, APPLE //e and APPLE IIgs

2) HDD Emulator, SD DISK II or others are recommended.

FDD also works but, will have delay if song file is larger than 24KB

Dear customers and Friends,

SD MIDI II+ Player did update for more functions and accurate play.

In this version, It used a Hidden reading method when it need more data from Disk and results having seamless polaying.

And user can select own Level meter char. by pressing 'B' and 'N' on APPLE II.

Playing tempo tuned more accurate.

It's up to what I've been working on recently.
The biggest change in this version is the player used as far as the hardware supports it.
It support a progressive bar (level meta).
It is very tight to support this in the 1Mhz APPLE II.
It was made using even the hardware timer and interrupt supported by the SD MIDI II card.
It is quite difficult to support it.
After a lot of trial and error, I finally decided to use a timer interrupt for simultaneous processing.

For reference, these progressive bars are the 16 channels of MIDI, from 0 to 15 from the top.
It seems that it is too difficult to handle this with interrupts in Apple2.
It's so hard that I don't want to bother you anymore.

It works fine with or without an accelerator card but, If you use an accelerator card, the CPU load is reduced, so the tempo of the sound can come out a little more naturally. This is because the load on the interrupt side is large.

Since you have to use PRODOS, you can't completely push the IRQ routine away, so this is the best what I can do.
If I increase the speed of the progressive bar quickly, the CPU load increases, so this is the last choice.

it is a thankful result with APPLE II.

Now I have waht I wanted.

** Some more information **

- MIDI file format 0 is supported. Other formats can be played smoothly by converting them to MIDI 0.
- There is no MIDI file size limit. However, if the file is large, a slight delay may occur. This is sometimes canceled by the internal timer when a delay occurs, but in some cases, it cannot be canceled and may exist as a sound delay.

It isn't a freeware sorry bout it but, I will provide SD MIDI][+ customers for free.

** NOTICE **

SD MIDI Plus card had MIDI INPUT technical issue, 

If you purchased it before 24th Jan 2017, Your card may have MIDI IN issue with some of sequencer.  

(It doesn't have problem on playing Music on Ultima V)

In fact, it may avoid MIDI input error if you make a sequencer but, I recently acquire sequencer sofware the Master Tracks, It didn't work with it.

I've updated firmware and works fine.

Hi friends,

I'm testing SD MIDI][+ final board.

In this time, I applied DC filter and OPAMP buffer for clean sound.

Now it works very good.

I'm testing other functions and will start to sell for local fans.

SD MIDI ][ Plus card is going to complete.

This MIDI card is compatible to The Passport hence, You can play it on Ultima 5 and some other.

Now, I'm adding new features in this MIDI card.

1) You can insert MIDI Sound Module

If you install the MIDI Sound Module, It would work as Perfect MIDI Sound Card. Not just MIDI interface. 

2) It has MIDI Bridge mode 

It would act as an extra MIDI Sound Module. You can connect MIDI cable and it would generate Sound.

3) It would have few I/O ports.

I'm preparing 4 I/O Ports to ON/OFF (TTL Level).

I've tested the 2) Bridge mode

MIDI from PC to APPLE 2 and played on MIDI Sound Module.

Maybe, I could start to sell this SD MIDI][ Plus card from end of Nov.
