I'm glad to announce this new firmware of SD DISK II plus emulator card.

This version of firmware is designed for easy to handle image files for SD DISK II plus emulator.

Please download the attached file and perform the firmware updates on your SD DISK II plus.

- Simple way to Update

1) Download and Copy the SDBIOS.ROM file into SD memory card Root directory.
2) Keep press EXIT and DIAL button and Power ON your APPLE IIe
3) Wait until to finish
4) Then Power OFF your APPLE IIe

I didn't test it on SD DISK][ emulator(earlier version) yet.
This Power ON menu works on APPLE //e with 65C02 CPU system. Other 6502 CPU APPLE II may not work.

Power ON your APPLE II and for the Menu, Press 'S' (it will wait for 1 sec)

Then you can see the menu screen.

Refer the * HELP * for the hot key.
* Pressing Left [APPLE] and <- -> / UP Down will work as Page UP/Down

- This version is a testing version.
- Files and Directory can show 40 files only in this version.

Now It shows SD Memory card images as under.

it isn't done yet so, I just working to show files and Directory navigation only.

What was changed?

1) New firmware support much better for Mockingboard emulation. now it supports all channels envelope 

I spent many days and nights to make a good mockingbird emulation.

*Chorus channels are removed and it assigned to more noise channels. now it has 3 noise channels.

2) User firmware update support
The previous version doesn't have this capability but from now it supports end-user updates. hence end-user could update when new firmware announce.

3) VGMPlayer support

But unfortunately, I need your card, hence SD Music card owner needs to ship it for firmware updates.
After that, End-user firmware updates are activated.

But,  worldwide covid19 is a big issue hence,  you may not easy to ship it to me and also my side having difficulty returning it to you.  please wait for good days for us.

Hi friends and customers,

VGM Player for APPLE II, It is version 1.21 now.

In this version, It supports sub-directory and easy file list moving with Page UP/Down.

Also for more fun, I added a Jukebox function. it is simple to play all of the music files in the present directory.

I'm glad to notice that I've made a VGM Player for SD MUSIC card.

Recorded songs are mostly Korean songs.

All VGM files extracted(Not by me) from Family Karaoke on Famicom system.

This VGM player used a bare control mode on SD Music card on new firmware V2.0.

It has 32KB file limit so need to manual load for next data hence, I'm considering using AUX memory or file reading way(It may have a delay while file reading).

Anyway, we have another program to play music on SD Music card.

I'm glad to announce for new firmware upgraded to Version 2.0.

In this version, I've applied all of Envelope functions and now it works very nice.

And on the Instruments Key On timing was improved a lot so, it could play much better.

Dear Customers,

I doing for upgrade firmware of SD MUSIC card.

In this time, I learned a lot more about AY3-910 hence,

It would a good time to apply it to my previous SD Music card.

I can promise that New firmware could have below functions.

1) Support Envelope but still limited on the noise channel 
As you may know, AY3-8910 have 3 noise channel and our Mockingboard have two sets of AY3-8910
Hence, the total Noise channel required already 6.
But, YM2413 chip has 9 music channels but, it doesn't have noise effect itself.
To generate Noise on Music card, I used the 9th channel and assigned it to Noise Instrument.
So, it has only one noise channel hence if the program used a noise channel with an envelope, it would influence another Noise channel too so it would have a different sound.

2)  More noise channels,  As above YM2413 having a lack of channel to emulate AY3 8910 hence, I will assign three channels for noise. In fact, needs 6 channels. but, I will try my best to express noise channels

3) Due to only available 6 channels for voices, it will be assigned all for Mockingboard channels, Hence 3 Chorus channel should be removed so the sound would be different on Music compare to the previous firmware.

4) User firmware updates, After this function prepared, Users can update to the new firmware.

5) User support functions would be added to control YM2413.
Previous version bare mode doesn't work properly. I will make a new way to control Ym2413.

So It would be much better to play music and game effects.

And If a user board needs to add a noise filter, I will do it free of charge.

I need your card in my hand to update new firmware and for the filters.

Dear Customers,

SD Music+ having some noise and here is a way to reduce noise.

The noise is coming from power source and YM2413.

This is a type of filter on output and input.

Please refer to the photo and apply two components.

One is 10K Ohms resistor and the other is a 0.022uF(223) capacitor.

(Similar value capacitor and resistor also work for this purpose)

It would help to reduce noise on sound.

Here is new firmware for SD Smart Drive.

Changes,

1) Fixed error FDD unmount, now works fine(Keep press EXIT + SELECT PUSH)

2) FDD assign way changed, it asking where to assign the selected image.

D1? or D2? have to select.

3) Dial reading noise reduced

1) Copy SDSmart.ROM file into SD Memory card on Root

2) Press EXIT+SELECT together while POWER ON the APPLE II

Hi, friends,

I've upgraded the VDP 1000plus to VDP MSX plus for A2Z80plus card.

As the naming, now it supports sound on MSX game.

Of cause, The Sega1000 and Colecovision also support as usual.

It could be a replacement of VDP 1000 plus board.

This board used bigger CPLD and removed some TTL chips and put AY3-8910 for MSX sound.

The S/W show SG/MSX, This is the position for MSX.

I've recorded one video for your understanding.

Both games sound doesn't sync as picture, it isn't this board issue, it my  video capture device is strange..

*VDP board used SRAM instead of DRAM for less heat and less soldering way.

Mode selector switch still there but, user can change the mode by I/O port.

Hence, SG/MSX mode with Colecovision mode can change by the program.

But mode follows the position of switch unless change mode by I/O port.

It was a very nice TMS9918 and AY3-8913 card for APPLE II.

It used TMS9918 and AY3 8912 for sound generation.

It has similar chip as the APMSX and if do match the I/O address, it also would work on APMSX.

Here are DISK images.

APMSX I/O address is following MSX I/O address hence, TMS9918 occupied at $Cn99 and $Cn99.

Sound chip sit on $CnA0 and $CnA1

I didn't try it yet but, I'm sure it could make it work on APMSX.

And Basic program looks nice, it can easily use TMS9918 and Sound by '&' command extension.

I will check how to modify it.

MSX IO Ports mapped on $Cn00 hence, APMSX could be used as a VDP card or Sound card similar to the Arcade board.

APPLE II can use 512KB memory area on $1000-8FFF so, can use as an extra Memory card.

(4) Use Z80CPU for APPLE II as a Co-processor as a Graphics accelerator or sound processor.

Z80 could access APPLE II area hance can access HGR and speaker.

if 6502 give order function such as graphics, ie circle, paint or scroll then Z80 could calculate and run background for the graphics or sound. It is one idea to use Z80 area and you need programming for it.

APPLE //e + SD DISKII plus DISK emulator

32MB HDD emulation is good for APMSX with lots of ROM images.

Even one FDD can use but, not many games could put in a DISK.

APPLE IIGS works but, no full duplex way.

RCA Video output and 3.5mm Stereo Audio output.

Changed Sound chip to AY3-8910 and an SRAM for VRAM but, We have no Slot of the MSX.

It optimized for work on APPLE //e.

It now supports 16Mhz but hard to play some games. too fast.

This testing is that APMSX is using the SD DISKII Plus as it's own peripherals.

I made a driver to access HDD of SD DISKII plus.

It detected as an HDD on MSX and could R/W above 150 files.

The disk structure is exactly MSXDOS(Very close to the MSDOS),

Compatibility;

APMSX works on APPLE //e  also APPLE IIGS with some limitations.

But not working on APPLE ][+.

I did fix some minor mistakes and ordered updated PCB for completion of the APMSX.

APMSX can use APPLE II peripherals,

I made an example of access on APPLE II slot device by APMSX.

It is direct access of SD DISKII Plus and used as a big FDD on APMSX.

65C02 doesn't have need any code to do this.

This example is, 

Save dummy data and delete data.

To access an APPLE II peripheral, It required a driver to access FAT16.

In this example, I made a driver to access SD DISKII Plus and loaded when it start MSX.

HDD access is fine and it's based on BeerIDE of MSX and it looks MSXDOS1.

Hence, I've could save around 150 to 200 files only.

Even having 32MB but, it isn't useful but very good for me.

It doesn't boot MSXDOS command. I tried to solve it but failed,... 

maybe I missed making environments before to start COMMAND.COM

I will leave it but will try again someday.
